Tour Day Info

I am coming in to Florence from the countryside. Should I drive in or take a train?

Whenever possible, we recommend taking a train or bus into the city. Parking is limited and expensive and most cars are not allowed to drive or park in the city center and often get ticketed. Trains and buses arrive at the central station (Stazione Firenze Santa Maria Novella), which is a 10-15 minute walk to our meeting points. Click here to check train schedules.

If you must drive in, consider parking at Piazzale Michelangelo – which usually has some free parking available and a great view to start your day in Florence! However, allow yourself plenty of time for traffic, parking, and getting to the meeting point by taxi or bus.

Please consult your lodging facility regarding directions to Florence from where you are staying. They usually know the best option – which is often provided on their websites.

What happens if I get lost and get to the meeting point late?

Your host can only wait ten minutes before starting the tour. Remember, other participants will also be waiting and it is not fair to them if the tour runs late or gets changed due to your late arrival.

We cannot offer refunds if you arrive late. Please allow plenty of time to get to your meeting point, which is centrally located in the historic center. There have been very few cases of this happening, and almost all of them involved visitors trying to drive in to the city!

Please take a train or bus in, or allow yourself lots of time to find your way. Those who are lodging in the historic center and surrounding area either walk or take a bus or taxi.

May I tip my guide?

Nothing would make your guide feel more appreciated! If you have a good time and your host is helpful, they always appreciate tips.

How do I get to the meeting point?

Our meeting points are in centrally located areas of the city. We provide a photo of our meeting points and an address, upon reservation confirmation. When in doubt, call us or the call center, or email us if you are unsure about your meeting point.

Reserving Tickets

What are the tour prices for children?

Though children are welcome to join the group it is not free of charge. Our guides work extra to make it entertaining when children participate.

The fee for a child under 11, assuming they are eating with us but not drinking wine, is €55.  Kids’ tickets must be requested by email.

Babies: We recommend having a few of their favorite things (any toys and/or snacks they might need during the four hours you’ll be tasting around Florence. Our only policy regarding small children is that parents are prepared and considerate of any other guests who might be taking the tour as well. (Quite honestly, we’ve always had great kids with great parents join us!). Children under 12 months join free.

Do you book tours for groups?

Organizing a group tour or corporate event? Taste Florence can reserve tours for groups of all sizes.

For incentive trips and large groups please email us at tasteflorence@gmail.com

I want to take the tour on a date that is marked as full on the reservation calendar. Is there any chance of reserving that date anyway?

If you absolutely positively only have one day in which you can attend your desired tour but it is full, send us an email and we will try to come up with a solution. This can only be done in advance- not last minute.

What is the best way to reserve my tour?

Though we are a very small company, we have implemented a third party booking system to sell our tour tickets. This allows our guests to pay by credit card from anywhere in the world on a secured server. Please book on our website by pressing the get tickets or calendar buttons, where you’ll open our calendar with possible tour options and be able to book a tour in five minutes or less. We do not accept cash.

About the Tour

What is my responsibility on the tour?

TREAT OTHERS AS YOU’D LIKE TO BE TREATED. This includes respect for your guide, other guests on the tour, and shop owners- including but not limited to: arriving punctually and allowing the guide to keep the tour at a comfortable pace for the entire group by participating and listening as a group member.

The travelers assume complete and full responsibility for themselves during the length of the proposed tour. Guests agree to arrival on time (no later than 10 minutes delay is possible before beginning the tour), in good pscho-physical condition (not drunk), and to show respect for the guide and other guests, and the venues we visit.

We are in Italy: Occasionally things may vary, due to the fact that most of our venues are small businesses operated by Florentines who work hard but occasionally need time off. Or sometimes equipment breaks or electricity goes out, or pipes explode. The Dolce Vita comes with a myriad of glitches!

Sometimes routes will be effected by shop owners/occasional technical problems. In such cases we will do our absolute best to serve something of equal or higher deliciousness!

I am a vegetarian/vegan/or have a specific allergy. Can I join the tastings?

Our tours are primarily vegetarian, with the exception of one meat tasting, which we substitute with beans or veggies whenever available. There is a lot of dairy on the tour, so it isn’t suitable for vegans – unless they are willing to skip the cheese tasting, since the gelateria serves great dairy-free sorbetto!

If you have any mortal allergies, such as nuts or bee stings – please notify us before your tour date and again on the day of your tour to be safe. We also ask that you read our terms and agreements regarding allergies.

Will my child enjoy participating?

We have had lots of kids and young adults on the tour. Most of them have had a great time and were a pleasure to meet. Only you know your child: Are they curious? Polite and attentive? Do they generally like food and trying new things? Are you willing to discipline them if they get bored or distracted?

I love food, but my spouse/friend/child could care less! What should I do?

If your spouse/friend/child is willing and able, consider taking separate tours. Perhaps while you are joining us, they can visit a museum or go shopping. You will not be alone – there will be other foodies participating to chat with!
